Love Southsea Market has returned in full swing

Love Southsea Market at Palmerston Road.
Love Southsea Market’s reopening at Palmerston Road- photographed by Lulu Whitmore.

Lulu, a married Mum of three from Southsea, said: “It was the perfect day for the opening- it was great to see both the traders and a nice flow of customers having things to do and supporting each other.

“The opening was safe, social distanced and wasn’t too overwhelming for those who haven’t been outdoors since the COVID restrictions started to lift.”

Samatar Ali, 19, a second year business student at the University of Portsmouth particularly liked “the wide variety the market has and its tasty street food.”

To maintain social distancing rules the number of traders at the market has decreased from the original 40 to 25. Therefore, it has recently returned again on May 1 and 2, with a different group of traders each day.

Heather Walters-Pierce, 33, from Southsea, owner of Leather Heather Crafts said: “I have traded at the market for the past seven years- it brings community spirit and helps to revitalise Palmerston Road, it’s been vital since losing John Lewis and Debenhams.”

The 100% Portsmouth grown market will return again on May 15.
