the educratic oath

I like the idea. A simple code that we all agree to live by. One that can replace the unwritten one that guided our school/work life for the industrial age. In my mind that went something like this:

Go to school everyday and do what you’re told. If you are sufficiently obedient, you’ll get into college. Then do what you’re told. If you’re sufficiently obedient (and lucky) you’ll get a steady job that will allow you to buy a house and have 2.5 kids. Do what you’re told for 35ish years and you’ll be able to retire to a healthy pension that will carry you through the rest of your life.

I think it’s time to update and formalize a new societal agreement/oath. Here’s my stab at that:

Go to school everyday. Show your peers respect. Question everything. Attempt to make the world a better place. Pursue what interests you. If you do that, you can keep doing all of that throughout your life.

The promises of stability and income are gone. The only promise left, as far as I can see, is the one we can make to one another. I will show you, your ideas, your efforts and your dreams respect.

How would your educratic oath ready?
