Fashion first with Kaimahi Konnections!
This Saturday morning saw a fashion first for Tui Ora as we hosted Kaimahi Konnections — a clothes swap for our hard-working health sector and a fun way for Tui Ora to give back to our community.
Hosting the event was the brainchild of Pou Tū Kūrae Alana Ruakere who has had great success with similar events in Wellington:
“Manaakitanga is in our DNA and this is an easy way of giving back to our kaimahi and the people we work with across hauora. Who doesn’t love getting a new outfit? Getting it for free is even better and when we upcycle and recycle we look after out taiao too.”
Kaimahi Konnections also made some conscious decisions to support local business with Knead supplying the doughnuts and George’s at Moturoa dishing up the fry bread. Our kawhe cart got its first official outing with roaster and barista aficionados Proof & Stock serving up top notch flat whites and mochas. All funds raised from the kai for koha and our silent auction will go to the New Plymouth branch of Dress for Success along with any smart threads left over from Saturday.
Staff from the CAHMS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service) at Te Whatu Ora turned up en masse and went away happy with their “new to you” outfits and full of praise for Tui Ora asking if we are going to hold another one? (answer yes: watch this space).
A big thank you to all kaimahi that donated clothes and the volunteers who helped set up and pack down.
