I Am Done With Generational Trauma

Breaking the cycle of abuse

What have you been carrying from your parents and grandparents?

What toxic coping mechanisms, fears and issues were been passed on to you?

What do negative behaviours do you see yourself modelling to your children?

The good news is that it is possible to break the cycle. Therapy, meditation, exercise, self education and self care do wonders.

But ultimately it is a mindset. A daily push. A struggle to recognise and overcome the ‘easy outs’ and ‘negative coping strategies’ that you were shown, and likely adopted.

It requires constant learning. And a realisation that there is always another hill to climb. Another skill to learn and another habit to drop.

At times it will feel like you are fighting a multi-headed hydra. Kill one head, and two more pop up. Solve one problem only to realise how much more you need to do.

You will lack adequate role models. No one knows the specifics of your trauma. Yet, people have dealt with similar issues, close enough that their strategies can help – if you let them.

Regardless, you have a wealth of knowledge of what not to do. You just have to find your own path forward from there.
