How Vanity Can Help You Feel Better

You are walking down the street wearing cotton shoes and pajamas, because you thought you needed to be fresh that day. The nearest corner shop opened early, and you buy a soda can, two bag of chips and sour candies to complement the elegant package.

Walk out of there thinking it’s going to be the perfect Sunday with a Netflix marathon and then you look back at the glass wall, the cashier is knocking signaling a couple of coins. You wave back telling her she can keep them, and you jump back like a cat seeing a cucumber.

“What in the name of life is this creature?” you think.

Two steps back, picking up the bags not looking away and your first guess is a sure bet, it’s you. Wanted to be fresh right? Now you realize your feet smell like market fish on a bargain Tuesday.

Something is not right, how many days has it been since your last shower? Is your hair supposed to look like a racoon’s nest (if they ever built one)? Why are there tomato sauce stains in your shirt if the last time you ate pizza was three days ago?

It’s not only the appearance, the smell or the stains, you feel as you see, at some point you stopped giving a huck.

The issue is not the way you look, it’s that you don’t look like yourself.

The main reason you don’t look like yourself links to your emotions, but there’s a big reason why this happens in the first place.

We never learned how to do so.

You know it, I know it, the cat parading in front of your window knows it to, otherwise it wouldn’t keep rubbing its fluffy but on it.

Vanity is bad, never look at yourself in the mirror unless you are going out and if you do make it five minutes at most.

Don’t pay attention to appearances, your appearance doesn’t define you, don’t pay too much attention to your hair.

These are things we learn from a very early age, and they tend to stick forever. It’s not bad advice at all, the problem is that it is only half of the advice.
