Week 12

This past week was pretty relaxed. I got some work done on my Data Mining project as well as my usual weekly assignments. I also had a couple of interviews with Intern project managers to see potential projects for me to be placed on this summer. Over the weekend, I attended the CreekShow art exhibition downtown with my girlfriend which was pretty fun.

I have to get started on my bigger assignments earlier. I keep getting distracted doing other things and assignment deadlines build up. Then I can’t get a head start on big assignments because I’m too busy finishing up assignments I put off earlier. It’s an issue that’ll keep snowballing, I have to get on top of it.

Next week I plan to get a good amount of work done on the Life project. It seems like it is going to be fairly complicated so I want to get a good amount of work done early. I also have a couple more interviews scheduled with project managers.

Learning about inheritance was fairly interesting. A lot of inheritance concepts in C++ are similar to those of other languages. However, there are some intricacies that are new to me, like casting a child class to its parent in order to get access to its methods and operators. Also, a lot of the functionality associated with inheritance that is implicit in languages like Java needs to be explicit in C++. This means that you have to be a lot more conscious of these behaviors when using inheritance in C++ which is new to me.
