Show Gratitude With Words

Last week I spoke about writing in a gratitude journal and the benefits this can offer. Writing is so powerful. Sharing your words with others can have an even bigger impact than journaling privately. Have you ever received a personally written note? How did it make you feel? Personal notes can really brighten someone’s day. Keep reading to see why you will want to show your gratitude with words, now.

Who isn’t busy? We are go caught up in our tasks and to-do lists and everything else that we forget what’s really important in our lives. Not only do we forget what is important, we forget to appreciate WHO is so important in our lives. This is why it is will be so meaningful to receive a note of appreciation. When was the last time you received a spontaneous note? That’s why taking some time and making the effort to write such a message is so powerful, for both you and the receiver.

That personal note or message goes far to show you care. Words have meaning, but we know the saying “actions speak louder than words”. Just the act of giving the note will make the receiver surprised.

And a positive surprise always improves someone’s day. This can be especially impactful if you send your message to someone you know is going through a rough time. Regardless, this small act will go far to strengthen existing bonds because it’s such a customized act. When people feel a personal attachment, they experience feelings of closeness and meaning. Your written acknowledgment of their importance in your life will affect your relationship in a positive way!

Your words of gratitude don’t have to be hand-written, even though that is truly a nice touch (it’s so rare these days). You can send something electronically if you like. Your message doesn’t have to be long, either. Any written words of appreciation will be a start and can be quite meaningful.

This is just a short list. What can you come up with on your own?

People from your past, relatives, neighbors, kids’ teachers and other meaningful people in your life should be considered as recipients for your words of gratitude. If possible, try to take on this practice daily, at least for a little while. You’ll see the momentum can lead to some pretty amazing results.
